Cost effective energy
information is possible today because of 1) specialized
hardware and software designed to gather interval data
and 2) leveraging the broad reach and high speed of the
web to transmit that data in using widely accepted
protocols and formats. This paper explores the technology
behind this architecture and helps the facility owner or
manager understand the "nuts and bolts" of
using existing phone lines and local area networks to
provide connectivity for data acquisition servers (DAS)
installed in commercial and industrial facilities. Topics explored include physical connection and setup of the DAS in both LAN and non-LAN installations, security and firewall issues, and using standard web browsers (such as Internet Explorer) to program the DAS and view data from remote database servers. |
