One of the promised benefits
of deregulation in the electrical power industry is that
owners of multiple buildings (for example, restaurant
chains) will be able choose a single supplier of
electricity across traditional utility boundaries. As
part of this program, the owner will be able to solicit
bids for the power supplied based on the aggregated
energy required for all the locations as if they were one
single location. Aggregating these loads results in lower
costs for the owner as utility providers will offer
better rate schedules for the larger use. Owners with
attractive load profiles can benefit further. The pace of deregulation has clearly slowed in recent times, but owners who choose to install energy information systems now can benefit from reduced energy costs as outlined in other application notes due to improved operations and at the same time develop the load profiles that will be required when competition in the electric business becomes a reality. |
